North America - interactive light rail and LRT map. Light rail routes, line coverage, and full LRT network — filterable by type and construction status.
North America - complete light rail and LRT (Light Rail Transit) network drawn from OpenStreetMap data. Light rail is the category between tram and metro: faster and higher-capacity than street trams, but built at a fraction of the cost of a full metro because much of the alignment runs at grade rather than underground. The same vehicle type can run on street track through a city centre, transition to a dedicated median reservation in the suburbs, and emerge onto a fully segregated interurban corridor — all on the same line. This map shows where those transitions happen and how each system is structured.
