Light rail is frequently chosen over full metro for medium-demand corridors where surface or at-grade construction is more cost-effective than tunnelling.
Spain currently has 1,999 railway segments under construction including 1,887 railway, 10 tram, 23 metro, 47 light rail and 32 narrow gauge.
